As of late yesterday afternoon I became the proud father of a new bouncing baby Macbook Pro. The baby weighs a little over 5 pounds and is 15 in long. The new baby and it's older brother, Powerbook G4, seem to get along just fine. I only got up with it twice last night and it seems to be taking in new tasks at an alarmingly well pace.
OK... now that I got people all worked up... I did get a new 2.33 15in Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro yesterday but I've only had a little bit of time to mess with it as I'm preparing for my building/studio's openhouse on Friday. My first impressions are great though. The screen can go much brighter than my old powerbook so I don't have to run it with the brightness amped up so much. Dynamic range appears great (will test more when I install my calibrator later) and the backlight problem of the previous model seems completely resolved and I can see even light across the entire screen. One pleasant surprise is that my software RAID was instantly noticed by the new system. I was unsure of how the Apple OS stored it's RAID configuration but it would appear that they put it directly on the drive which made for zero configuration needed (which is good because that would wipe out the drives and require a full backup, etc). I'm still loading applications but the speed seems great (although we'll see with photoshop through rosetta later tonight). The wireless network card is a pre-n card and although 10.4 doesn't treat it as a pre-n card I have noticed that I got better coverage when connecting to my Netgear pre-n router so it is obvious so far that the chipset is already a plus for me. I hope to write more soon, good or bad, after I get time to really install some apps and play/test the system.
First impression though, if you were on the fence about getting a new macbook pro or not then I would suggest the time is now as the machine seems better than ever.
I used to want to be a pilot and an astronaut. Years later I wanted to be a physicist and then a network engineer. Now after watching the below video I think my photography will have to turn towards Fashion Photograhy. I hope my wife doesn't mind me becoming a Fashion Photographer when I grow up... LOL.
Each year I volunteer to help my friends produce a movie for either the 48 hour film fest and/or the National Film Challenge. It starts with me helping with scripting, grip work, lighting, etc (you know behind the scenes stuff) and somehow morphs into me having an acting role! I can't act but it seems my roles keep getting bigger. All I can do now though is share my terrible acting skills to the world... so without further delay I give you...
PS - My fellow Istockers will like that I play a fashion photographer in someone's hallucination and those that have met me will know that I don't speak to my models that way... yeah, I'm WAY more demanding. :)
